Anti-Zionist Jewish Delegation in Tunisia Shows Support for Sumud Convoy

Welcome Ceremony in Sfax, southern Tunisia

A delegation of anti-Zionist Jews welcomed the Sumud Convoy (also known as “the solidarity convoy,” “Soumoud Convoy,” “Steadfast Convoy,” or “Maghreb Resilience Convoy”) in Tunis through a series of events aimed at showing solidarity with over 1,500 activists who traveled for 10 days to reach the Gaza-Rafah border, seeking to break the Israeli-imposed siege that has denied basic food and medical supplies to a population already suffering from severe starvation and deprivation.

This action was organized as part of the Global March to Gaza, intended to break the siege and draw international attention to the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza. However, these activists were denied entry to Gaza by Egyptian authorities and were returning to Tunis.

The rabbis who had participated in the Global March to Gaza in Egypt—where they were also denied entry at the Rafah border—traveled to Tunis to join the mass convoy as a gesture of sympathy with the people of Gaza and solidarity with the activists they had planned to meet in Egypt and enter Gaza alongside, together with other international activists.

The first welcome event was held in Sfax, southern Tunisia, as part of a procession marking the convoy’s return on the morning of Thursday, June 19, 2025. Thousands gathered to honor the activists who had dedicated themselves to breaking the siege on Gaza after 20 months of relentless violence causing a humanitarian crisis.

Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss addressed members of the press in Sfax, conveying a powerful message of solidarity. He urged the world to stop the ongoing Zionist crimes, calling them a rebellion agai

nst God and His Torah—and a crime against humanity.

At the Welcome Ceremony in Tunis

The second welcome event took place in Tunis on Thursday night, June 19, where thousands again gathered to show their support and appreciation for the efforts of the activists. The crowd cheered and applauded the participants of the convoy.

At a powerful moment during the ceremony, Rabbi Weiss spoke to the thousands gathered, declaring:

“Because we are Jews, we will never accept the existence of the State of Israel. We feel, we cry with the people of Gaza. We come to tell the Sumud Convoy: Congratulations, because you are not silent. You are telling the world, ‘We dare not be silent when innocent people are being killed.’ Congratulations for your courage.”

The days that followed were spent in beautiful unity, as activists from many different countries around the world gathered for several events in support of the Palestinian cause.

Press Conference in Tunis

On Friday morning, a press conference was held in Tunis, where several of the organizers addressed the media.

Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, addressed the convoy and spoke about the special importance of their mission. She began her speech by congratulating the activists and especially thanked the Jewish rabbis for coming such a long way to support Palestine. She also expressed her gratitude to the rabbis for supporting her when she was in the USA and came under Zionist attack and intimidation.

Following that, Rabbi Weiss addressed the members of the press, with Arabic translation provided on site. This time, he had the opportunity to speak in depth about Jewish opposition to Zionism and the crimes committed by the Zionist entity.
