Columbia University Protest at Butler Library in Solidarity with Gaza and Palestine

In a powerful demonstration of solidarity with Gaza and Palestine, students and activists at Columbia University raised their voices on May 7, 2025 to demand an end to the ongoing genocide in Gaza. The protest saw the renaming of Butler Library to the “Basel Al-Araj Popular University”, a symbolic act that underscored the urgency of addressing the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Palestine.

With a clear and resounding message, protesters emphasized that the atrocities in Gaza must come to an immediate halt. Despite their peaceful efforts, participants were arrested during the occupation of the library. However, they were later released without incident. Outside the library, supporters gathered in solidarity, including anti-Zionist Jews, who joined forces to denounce Israel’s actions in Gaza. The crowd chanted passionately and marched outside the campus grounds, calling for an end to Zionism, which is perpetrating genocide and starvation against the Palestinian people.

The rally featured Rabbi Dovid Feldman, who addressed the crowd in front of the liberated zone. Rabbi Feldman expressed unwavering support for the students’ activism, demanding an end to the violence in Gaza and calling for opposition to the occupation of Palestine.

Rabbi Feldman also urge the students not to be intimidations by the false accusations of being called anti Semite, and urge them to stand for justice and to be on the right side of history
