Anti-Zionist protesters demonstrated on April 18, 2024, at Columbia University in New York City, in support of students facing attempts to silence their solidarity with Gaza.
In recent days, Columbia students and their allies set up camp on the lawn around 4 a.m. on Wednesday. The young demonstrators stated their intention to remain until the institution divests from partners who support Israel.
The protest coincided with Columbia University President Minouche Shafik testifying before a Congressional committee about the Ivy League institution’s efforts to combat so-called “antisemitism” on campus since the October 7, 2023, incident.
Rabbi Dovid Feldman, present at the protest along with other anti-Zionist Jews, emphasized, “It’s important to know that anti-Zionism is not anti-Semitism, and we admire the students who stand up for what is right. Judaism is not Zionism; it’s just the opposite.”
