speech at rally in Queens for Gaza

Asalam Aleikoom, Shalom Aleichem, greetings to everyone.

We pray to the Almighty that our words should convey the message of the Almighty, sanctify His name and bring peace to the world.

We, as religious Jews, condemn the Israeli war against the Palestinian people living in Gaza. The State of Israel was responsible for sparking this war with their unjust decision to evict the Palestinians from Sheikh Jarrah. Their hypocrisy was on display when they ruled that Israeli landowners still hold title to their land that they owned before 1948, while millions of Palestinians still languish in refugee camps, unable to return and claim their own private land from which they were expelled in 1948.

This war was a reminder that the conflict created by Zionism did not start now, or 10 years ago or even in 1967. And it’s not only the extremist settlers who are the problem. The entire creation of the state of Israel accompanied by the expulsion of the Palestinians was a crime whose effects continue to be felt to this day.

And that’s why although we are relieved that they have reached a ceasefire, and the killing will stop, still the victims of this war aren’t coming back to life. Their families will miss them forever.

Likewise, many of the wounded will remain maimed, and untold thousands of residents of destroyed buildings are left homeless. And the same applies to the thousands of victims of the Zionist conflict from the past 73 years. As long as the occupation goes on, we are not safe and we are not free.

The sins of the Zionists are compounded by the fact that they falsely claim to be the Jewish state, acting in the name of the Jewish people. In truth, the Torah forbids the Jewish people to create their own state since the destruction of the Temple, and certainly creating their state through the occupation of another people’s land just makes the crime and rebellion against the Almighty worse.

They quote the Torah to justify their actions, when in fact the Torah is completely opposed to everything they do.

Before Zionism, the Jews of Palestine use to live side by side with the Palestinians, in peace and mutual respect.

Jews lived by their tradition and the Torah’s teaching that they are in exile by Divine decree, and they must live humbly in exile, serving the Almighty and being loyal to their host country. Before Zionism, the Jews of Palestine use to live side by side with the Palestinians, in peace and mutual respect. We conclude with a prayer for the peaceful dismantlement of the Zionist state, and we hope that at that time we will once again be able to live in peace with our Palestinian neighbors.
