On August 13, 2026, Palestinian Jews marched through the streets of Meah Shearim in occupied Jerusalem, carrying Palestinian flags and publicly declaring their opposition to Zionism.
The demonstration was part of a monthly anti-Zionist march held at the beginning of each new Jewish month—Rosh Chodesh. During these regular marches, members of Jerusalem’s anti-Zionist Jewish community proclaim that Zionism is not Judaism and that the State of Israel does not represent the Jewish people.
Their opposition is rooted in the traditional Jewish belief that the Jewish people remain in exile by Divine decree and are forbidden to establish political sovereignty through force, wage wars against other nations, or oppress the people among whom they live.
Attempt to Steal a Palestinian Flag Sparks Confrontation
During the march, a Zionist approached one of the demonstrators and attempted to steal the Palestinian flag from his hands.
The marchers immediately confronted him, and a heated confrontation followed. The incident demonstrated the hostility Palestinian Jews face simply for carrying a Palestinian flag and publicly rejecting Zionism.
The marchers rejected the use of Judaism to justify occupation, displacement, and violence against Palestinians. They also declared that criticizing Zionism and the State of Israel is not antisemitism.
Despite the confrontation, the monthly march continued to deliver its message:
Zionism is not Judaism. Israel does not represent the Jewish people. Jews and Palestinians can live together peacefully without Zionism, occupation, or oppression.
