International Day of University Strikes: A Historic Stand for Palestine

On Thursday, November 21, 2024, students around the globe made history by organizing a day of strikes in solidarity with Palestine. Marking the International Day of University Strikes, these actions brought together thousands of voices united against the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

In New York City, NYU students began the day with a morning walkout, followed by a statewide rally at Columbus Circle. Despite heavy rain, hundreds gathered to show solidarity with the Palestinian people and condemn the Zionist occupation and genocide in Gaza. The protest commenced at 2:00 PM with powerful speeches from representatives of universities, colleges, and organizations, all expressing their strong opposition to the atrocities committed by the Zionist regime.

After an hour of speeches, the crowd marched through the streets, eventually gathering on the steps of the library at Bryant Park. Anti-Zionist Jews joined the protest, standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people and rejecting the association of Zionism with Judaism.

On the same day, a significant development occurred: the International Criminal Court (ICC) ruled that Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant should be arrested for their roles in the genocide in Gaza. Rabbi Yitzchok Deutsch addressed the media, calling it “a great day for humanity as the world wakes up to Zionist crimes.” Rabbi Deutsch added, “Zionists will, of course, accuse the ICC of anti-Semitism, but nothing could be further from the truth. Zionism is not Judaism, and opposing Zionism is not anti-Semitism. It is the duty of every defender of human rights to stand against genocide. Especially as Jewish people, we must stand up against the Zionists who use our religion to conceal their crimes.” .
