Protesters Demand Action Against Gaza Genocide on International Genocide Prevention Day

On Monday, December 9th, 2024, the world marked International Genocide Prevention Day, commemorates 76 years of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. Yet, as we stand now, over 14 months into witnessing the ongoing genocide in Gaza, world leaders remain silent, allowing the Zionist regime to carry out this atrocity. People of conscience around the world gathered on this special day to demand justice and protest the ongoing genocide.
In the morning, NYU students held a walkout for Palestine at 6 Metro Tech in Brooklyn, where they called for an end to the relationship with the genocidal regime. Rabbi Yitzchok Deutsch, who was present at the walkout, spoke in solidarity with Palestine and questioned why the world continues to remain silent. He explained that Zionists are falsely claiming to act on behalf of the Jewish people, but, as Jews, we are here today to say this does not represent us. “This is not in favor of the Jewish people,” he asserted. “On the contrary, Judaism does not permit killing, stealing, or occupying other people’s land. The very concept of Zionism is against the Jewish religion.”
At 2:00 p.m., another protest took place at the United Nations Headquarters despite heavy rain. While inside the UN, a meeting was held to commemorate Genocide Prevention Day. Outside, protesters demanded the world take immediate action to stop the genocide, including enforcing an arms embargo and halting the supply of weapons to the Zionist regime.
“It’s about time to realize that this genocide has to stop. World leaders should take action,” said Rabbi Dovid Feldman at the protest.
Following the rally at the UN, the crowd marched and took the subway to Columbia University, where hundreds of students gathered in solidarity with Palestine. They marched around the campus, raising their voices to demand justice and support for Palestine.
