On Monday night, October 9, 2023, thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters gathered outside the boarded-up Israeli embassy in Kensington. Chants of “Israel is a terrorist state” and “Free Palestine” echoed through the streets as demonstrators faced a Zionist counter-gathering.
The rally came just two days after the war erupted, following decades of ongoing occupation and oppression spanning 76 years. Among the protesters were anti-Zionist Jews, who voiced their opposition to Zionism, which they identified as the root cause of the conflict.
UK Rabbi Yakov Weiss, speaking to 5Pillars, stated:
“The root cause of the bloodshed in Palestine is the Zionist occupation and oppression of the people.”
The protest highlighted solidarity with Palestinians and opposition to the continued occupation and violence.
