Heated Protest in Midtown Manhattan
On Tuesday evening, May 5, 2026, a strong and heated protest took place in Midtown Manhattan, NYC, against the sale of stolen Palestinian land at the Park East Synagogue, located on East 67th Street in Manhattan. This is the second time the synagogue has hosted such an event.
Demonstrators gathered outside the synagogue to denounce the use of a holy religious space for activities connected to violations of international law and the displacement of Palestinians.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani Expresses Concern
Earlier in the day, NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani expressed concern regarding the event, saying it raised serious questions related to international law and public accountability.
His comments added to the growing public debate surrounding the controversy and the role of religious institutions in hosting such events.
Protesters Reject Previous Accusations
Following the previous protest at the synagogue, Zionist groups accused demonstrators of preventing Jewish worshippers from entering the synagogue for prayer.
Protesters strongly rejected those accusations, saying they were false and intended to misrepresent the nature of the demonstration. According to organizers and participants, the protest was directed at the crime itself and not at Judaism or Jewish religious practice.
NYPD Barrier Policy Implemented
Following the controversy surrounding the earlier protest, Zionist Groups pushed for increased police separation between demonstrators and synagogues.
As a result, the NYPD implemented barriers creating distance between protesters and the religious building during Tuesday’s demonstration. Protesters argued that the new measures were being used to limit visibility and silence opposition voices.
Rabbi Dovid Feldman Speaks at the Protest
Rabbi Dovid Feldman, who attended the protest alongside a large anti-Zionist Jewish presence, spoke during the demonstration and questioned why such events were being hosted inside synagogues.
Rabbi Feldman argued that holding these events in religious spaces allows organizers to portray criticism of the event as criticism of Judaism itself. He said this creates confusion and is used to discourage protests and silence opposition voices.
it is worth to note that Park East Synagogue is only one of many synagogues that have hosted similar events.
Protest March Continues Through Manhattan
After the rally outside the synagogue, protesters marched through the streets of Manhattan, continuing their chants and demonstrations late into the evening.
Despite efforts to restrict or contain the protest, demonstrators said their message remained loud and clear: that New York City should not stay silent while such events continue to take place.
