Jews Rejects Claims of Antisemitism and Voices Support for Justice and Palestinian Rights

On Thursday, June 11, 2026, anti-Zionist Jews held a counter-protest in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, after Zionist activists organized a demonstration opposing the decision of the Park Slope Food Coop to adopt a BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) policy regarding Israeli products.

Following a democratic vote by the Coop’s members, the organization decided to support the boycott of Israeli products as an act of solidarity with the Palestinian people and also in response to the ongoing suffering in Gaza. In reaction, Zionist protesters accused the Coop and its members of antisemitism for taking this stand.

Anti-Zionist Jews Reject False Claims of Antisemitism

Despite receiving only last-minute notice of the event, a delegation of anti-Zionist Jews organized a counter-protest to make clear that opposition to Zionism is not opposition to Jews or Judaism. Participants emphasized that standing against oppression and injustice is both a moral obligation and, and according to Jewish teachings, a religious duty.

Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss while speaking stressed that Jews must speak out when crimes and injustices are committed in the name of the Jewish people and their religion. and argued that remaining silent in the face of suffering would be contrary to the values of justice and compassion.

Tensions at the Demonstration

According to participants, the behavior of some Zionist activists at the scene reflected an unwillingness to accept criticism of Zionism and Israel’s policies. Nevertheless, the anti-Zionist demonstrators continued to voice their message, stating that attempts to silence dissent would not prevent the truth from being heard.

Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss Addresses the Crowd

Among the speakers was Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss, who addressed the gathering and challenged accusations of antisemitism directed at critics of Israel.

“We need to know who the real anti-Semites are,” Rabbi Weiss said. He argued that the State of Israel’s actions over the past 78 years have brought suffering and bloodshed, and he urged people of conscience everywhere to stand against injustice and oppression.

The demonstration highlighted the growing number of Jewish voices who reject Zionism and seek to distinguish Judaism from the political ideology and actions of the State of Israel.
