On Friday, May 17, 2024, the United Nations held a commemoration event titled “1948 – 2024: The Ongoing Palestinian Nakba” at the ECOSOC Chamber. The event examined the historical context of the 1948 events and the ongoing process of the Nakba over the past 76 years, culminating in the current war on Gaza. Testimonies were also presented on the current conflict, highlighting international obligations and responsibilities.
Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss from Neturei Karta International spoke at the panel discussion, stating:
“The United Nations did accept and ratify the state, but even though there is a distinguished body, the United Nations, that does not legitimize when a group of people comes along and takes land away from another people, especially when they do it in the name of a religion that is 3,000 years old. That expressly states that we are forbidden to do that.”
After the speech, the Jewish delegation met with leaders of the United Nations, expressing their opposition to the state of Israel and its atrocities.
