On May 7, 2024, a council meeting was held at Howell Town Hall, in New Jersey where proponents of Zionism attempted to push a resolution against anti-Semitism. This resolution aimed to include everyone who stands against the occupations of Palestine, and sought to silence the voices of Palestinian supporters
The original draft had four points confirming opposition to anti-Semitism, including one that implies support for Israel. However, after the community stood together and made it clear to the council the difference between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism, the resolution was modified. It was made clear that standing up against Zionism is still not anti-Semitic.
The meeting was well attended, which included a delegation of Jewish Rabbis who spoke before the council. One of the rabbis, Rabbi Afriem Beck, made it clear that Jews lived in a beautiful peace with the Palestinians and that free Palestine is not anti-Semitic at all. Rabbi Yisreol Dovid Weiss addressed the meeting, pleading to the politicians not to conflate Zionism with Judaism. His speech was well accepted and applauded by the attendees of the meeting.
